Eugene O'Hagan

Eugene is a regular guest of Fortwilliam Musical Society, playing Alfredo in Die Fledermaus, Fagin in Oliver!, The Duke in The Gondoliers, and The Major General in The Pirates of Penzance.

He has won many awards at local music festivals and pursued singing studies with Maestro Ballini while at Rome where he sang on numerous occasions at St Peter's and at other Roman basilicas.

He has worked for many years to critical acclaim with Castleward Opera and Lyric Opera Productions, Dublin.

In 2002, he played Don Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro at Derry's Millennium Forum and has performed The Messiah with the Culwick Choral Society, A Tribute to Sir Arthur Sullivan in the National Concert Hall, Dublin and the Irish premier of Bach's reconstructed St. Mark's Passion with the Belfast Philharmonic Society. In the same year, he made his directorial debut with Castleward's production of Trial by Jury.

He made a welcome return to Fortwilliam in 2005 to play Lord Evelyn Oakley in Anything Goes. His rendition of Rule Britannia brought the house down every night and earned him a nomination for Best Comedian in the AIMS Awards.

Eugene won Best Comic Actor for playing Ko-Ko in Festival Productions' The Mikado in the 2007 Gilbert & Sullivan International Festival in Buxton. The show also won the overall prize.

In early 2008, he took on the role of Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, winning an nomination for Best Male Singer in the AIMS Awards.

Later in 2008, he sang with Capella Caeciliana on a concert tour in Rome, followed by a G&S tribute concert at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, and a performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. As if that were not enough, he played the role of Monsotatos in Lyric Opera's production of Mozart's Die Zauberflote.

In November 2008, Eugene teamed up with his brother Martin and David Delargey to release an album of sacred music under the name of The Priests. The trio first sang together while at St. MacNissi's College, Garron Tower, where they took a number of lead roles in the annual school productions of Gilbert and Sullivan operas in the 1970s.
