John Hinchey

John as Curly in Oklahoma!, Feb. 2001

John's first major role with our Society was as Curly in the 2001 production of Oklahoma! A year later, he played Guiseppe in The Gondoliers and in 2003 he played Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance.

In February 2004, he renewed his onstage romance with Siobhan Mullin as Tommy in Brigadoon.

John has also appeared in shows with Belfast Operatic Company and Ulster Operatic Company, and has a wealth of Gilbert and Sullivan experience. He has appeared in several productions of Trial by Jury, including one at the Waterford Festival where he played the Defendant. (He got off with a suspended sentence and a restraining order.)

He has performed with New Lyric Opera Company and at the Belfast Festival at Queen's Cavalcade of Song over recent years both as a singer and a flautist. He has made recordings with Fluters Five, appearing on radio and television with this and another group, Flautilla. One of his flute arrangements was played at the 1989 Convention of the National Flute Association of USA.
