The following article appeared in Farming Life prior to our fund-raising concert
in October 2007:
If you are a fan of songs from well-known musicals and shows, Loanends Presbyterian Church has organised 'One Enchanting Evening' for you on Friday, October 19th.
Held in the Church hall, the evening variety performance will be provided by Fortwilliam Musical Society. Around 50 performers will take to the stage for the curtain call at 7.45pm.
Fortwilliam Musical Society, who are celebrating their 30th Anniversary will
perform preview highlights from their forthcoming anniversary production of
My Fair Lady that will be held in the Waterfront
Hall in February. They will also perform songs from their award winning production
of Calamity Jane, which bagged them three awards
at last year's award ceremony of the Association of Irish Musical Societies.
As well as songs from the classics, there will be a few tributes to more modern
muscials such as Mamma Mia and Andrew Lloyd Webber hits like
Cats and Phantom of the Opera. There will
even be the odd folk song thrown in also.
Robert Wallace, a member of the Loanends Church Fundraising Committee says:
"Billy Cairns, the musical director
of FMS, is acclaimed for directing the Irish premier of 'My Fair Lady' in the
1970s. He will be with us on the 10th October, ensuring an experienced and quality
production to rival any performance from the West End.
